Wallonie-Bruxelles Design/Mode (WBDM)
Wallonia-Brussels Design/Mode (WBDM) is a governmental agency for the promotion of design and fashion, which aims to increase the international reputation of designers from Wallonia and Brussels.
Through a constant participation in major tradeshows, exhibitions and conferences, WBDM ’s mission is to increase networking and business opportunities for Belgian design and fashion talent in the international market.
The agency concurrently emanates from Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI), the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency (AWEX) and the Ministry of the French-speaking Community – Contemporary Arts Department.
WALLONIA FOREIGN TRADE AND INVESTMENT AGENCY (AWEX)
The Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency (AWEX) is the Wallonia Region of Belgium’s government agency in charge of foreign trade promotion and foreign investment attraction.
The agency has a worldwide network of 105 Economic and Trade Attachés.
As a foreign trade agency, AWEX carries out a mission of promotion and information for the benefit of both Wallonia and the foreign business community.
As a foreign investment agency, AWEX has an overall responsibility for the attraction of foreign investment in Wallonia. This includes seeking out and providing information to potential foreign investors. The Agency also offers a pro-active follow-up service to investors already established in Wallonia. In addition, it is in charge of identifying new foreign investors for the acquisition of industrial sites under restructuring process.
Wallonia – Brussels International (WBI)
The actions of Wallonia-Brussels abroad naturally involve the diplomatic representations of the Belgian State. However, Wallonia-Brussels also has its own representations with diplomatic status. In addition to a network of almost a hundred Walloon economic and commercial attachés covering the whole world, Wallonia-Brussels is represented abroad and within the organisations of the European Union through its Delegations.
Exclusive competencies of the French Community of Wallonia-Brussels:
Cultural matters (fine arts, cinema, radio, television,libraries, youth, etc.); Social matters (promotion of health, social assistance,care of the elderly); education and fundamental research; use of languages.
All these competencies translate into actual involvement on the international level, as communities and regions are entitled to conclude international treaties.
